Custom Invitations | Spring Wedding at The Bolling Haxall House | Richmond, VA

My husband and I got married in the spring of 2017 in Richmond, Virginia. I was just beginning to delve into the world of calligraphy and wanted to take on the job of DIYing my own wedding invitations. My dear friend Elise, an illustration artist, created beautifully detailed water color drawings and a venue sketch of our reception site (The Bolling Haxall House) which I incorporated into our initial invitations.

Fast forward to 2019, I enrolled in the incredible Stationer’s Summit to soak up some knowledge about the world of wedding stationery design. I decided I wanted to put this knowledge to work and redesign my own wedding invitations to reflect the image of my brand and frankly to pretty things up a bit. I reworked the original artwork and broadened the color palette. I am so excited about how it turned out!

Here is a peak at my original work. Pretty dramatic change, huh?

The invitation is backed with sage-gray deckled edge paper and is adhered with a cream wax seal.

The majority of the design from the reception card remained the same. I changed the position of the florals and updated the calligraphy text.

The timeline card is one of my favorite details of the suite. Not only is it practical because it gives guests an idea of what to expect, the illustrations give the piece a custom touch.

Details from the envelope liner seen above are seen throughout the venue: on the fence and wallpaper in the ballroom.
